The scheme, currently on site, will see the construction of a 36 bedroom old persons' extra care provision located at the heart of the site and surrounded by extensively landscaped gardens and discreetly organised parking areas. Adjacent to this building and demarking the entrance to the site will be a block of landmark flats. A further 24 two, three and four bedroom houses for general needs complete the site and have been set out around the principles of
Home Zones
.
Working closely with a local
RSL the scheme achieved Planning in March 2009 following a number of public consultations to establish the principles and scope of the design. The new buildings follow a modern design approach rather than a pastiche of local styles. Each building uses a similar palette of materials and detailing to bring a consistent approach to the development but with subtle variations in their form to distinguish the building types.
All the buildings incorporate energy saving measures and benefit from high levels of thermal insulation. The introduction of sustainable drainage, green roofs, extensive native planting, water saving,
CHP unit and photovoltaic panels also assist with the long term sustainability of the scheme. The first phase of houses, located on the southern part of the site achieve Code Level 3 of the Code For Sustainable Homes, while the second phase of houses on the northern part of the site are aiming to achieve Code Level 5.
