Located in a rural area within the village of Shillington, this scheme forms a Rural Exception Site. Working together with both a local
RSL and Contractor, and developed out of public consultations, the scheme provides a mixed development of two, three and four bedroom houses and bungalows for local people.
The scheme incorporates a modern approach to the design of the houses and uses a palette of brick, render and cedar cladding, using modern methods of construction to minimise the construction period. The houses have been designed to achieve at least Code Level 3 of the Code For Sustainable Homes. Orientated to within 30 degrees of due south, the houses include large windows to maximise solar gain and incorporate planted pergolas and deciduous trees to the south to provide shading during the summer months.
Externally the new street has incorporated the principles of Home Zones to establish a pedestrian and child friendly environment, and this has been reinforced by good levels of natural survelliance from the proposed housing. An informal recreation area has been incorporated into the landscaping for the enjoyment of both the new development and the existing neighbours.
