Approached by our Client to provide a new Church Hall for parishioners on a restrictive site containing the existing church, called for a novel approach.
The proposal envisages the new facilities contained within a new Crypt formed as an annex below the existing Church. This involved extensive excavation and reinforcement work to the structure and foundations of the existing church, while seeking to preserve the delicate existing features of the church. The new crypt will incorporate a main hall, a small parish shop, lift access from the church and a new wheelchair accessible
WC provision.
Externally, a new paved entrance staircase will provide direct access to the crypt with stonework matching the church combined with modern glass balustrades.
