Whitefield Schools and Centre | Walthamstow 2008 - 2011
This recently completed project created a new standalone Early Year's Unit school building to enhance the existing expertise and resources offered by the long established Whitefield Schools and Centre.

The new unit will cater for pre school deaf blind and autistic children, and will allow parents and siblings to see how the school can assist them in dealing with a child who is autistic and to provide the necessary support and encouragement in these early years.

In keeping with the Client's aspirations, the building incorporates many sustainable features to reinforce their belief in providing a living green building that will help stimulate and educate their students, staff and the wider community. Features include roof mounted solar water heating panels, rainwater harvesting for use within and around the building, green roofs, sunpipes and high level windows to optimise natural daylighting and high levels of insulation. Internally this approach is continued with materials carefully selected to demonstrate reuse and recycling, used as a built teaching aid.
