Joseph Clarke School, Waltham Forest

The redevelopment of Joseph Clarke School, for the Whitefield Academy Trust, which is a centre of excellence for visual impairment in Waltham Forest, proposed the complete renovation and partial redesign of the existing building, including a new feature entrance block and additional teaching rooms. Envisioned as a phased development in order to accommodate the school terms, the final phase was completed in September 2017.

The new entrance to the school has been designed to create a vibrant introduction to the building, in the form of a bluue steel reflective cone, incorporating a ramp into the rotunda to access the various levels, surrounding a central reception area.

As part of the internal redesign, large circulation spaces have been created between the new build areas and the existing building to provide flexible spaces and opportunities for the school to use different teaching environments.
