Parkside View, St. Albans

The proposal for North Hertfordshire Homes and St Albans District Council , completed in 2015, consist of 35 independent living flats for older persons with communal and support facilities to replace the existing facilities at Caroline Sharpe House, St. Albans.

Communal facilities provided include a resident’s lounge and dining room on the penthouse floor with direct access to the roof terrace. The roof terrace was designed to be used by the residents and provided an external community space, therefore allowing the footprint of the building to increase.

The proposed mass was designed to sit comfortably within the existing built fabric of the area and avoid any potential overlooking issues.  The new building follows a modern approach, rather than a pastiche of local styles, with a restrained palette of materials that reflect the local area.
