Practice Profile | History
Kyle Smart Associates was established in November 1996 by Colin Smart Bsc Arch. RIBA and became a Limited Company in March 2007. The Practice now has 9 Architects and 3 Architectural Assistants.
The Practice philosophy is that each project is specific to the needs of the Client: we pride ourselves in LISTENING to Clients.
Since establishing the Practice, a variety of work has been undertaken, ranging from Sustainable Social Housing, Estate Regenerations, Community Architecture, Private Housing, Flexi Care, Supported Housing and Assisted Independent Living Housing for Older Persons. The Practice has now grown to 12 Architectural Staff and continues to grow in a managed way.
We firmly believe that projects benefit from clarity in design and in communicating the design to the people who are going to live and work in the buildings we design and to the neighbours affected by the process.
This is achieved by listening to residents, through discussions and presentations - throughout the whole design and construction process - explaining in layman terms so that all can understand what is being proposed.
We work with tenant groups to ensure that what we design is what the residents want - if not the case we will always be fighting a battle - this is achieved through careful consideration through:

- Tenant focus groups to work with us to ensure the buildings and environment end up the way we all want them to.
- Involving existing and potential tenants in specification by investigating choice.
- Working during construction phase to inform and change if necessary to suit the purpose originally intended.
